The annual summer festival, Festival del Sole, celebrates its 10th Season with performances by award-winning artists spotlighting classical music, jazz, opera, theater, dance, and more. Along with unforgettable performances by amazingly talented professionals, the festival also highlights Napa Valley’s world-class wines and Wine Country cuisine, and the talents of promising young artists. If you haven’t attended the festival yet, here are some reasons why you should!
OUTSTANDING ARTISTS
With 10 days of over 60 events to choose from, the talent at this year’s festival is vast! A sample of some of the artists performing this year include award-winning violinists, ballet dancers, composers, opera singers, and more.
Violinist, Regina Carter – critically acclaimed as the foremost jazz violinist of her generation and recipient of the MacArthur Fellowship (a “genius grant”)
San Francisco Ballet Principal Dancer, Frances Chung – Principal Dancer since 2009, recipient of the Isadora Duncan Award for Outstanding Achievement in Performance, prizewinner at Prix de Lausanne, and recipient of a silver medal at the Adeline Genee Awards
Mezzo-Soprano, Kelley O’Connor – Grammy Award winner, and recipient of international acclaim for her numerous performances as Federico Garcia Lorca in Osvaldo Golijov’s Ainadamar
Composer, Gordon Getty – this American composer was honored in 1986 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and in 2003 was the recipient of Gold Baton of the American Symphony Orchestra League
Illustrator, Storyteller, Film Director, and Rock Climber, Jeremy Collins – named “Most Inspiring Individual” this year by the Outdoor Industry Association, named one of the Top 100 Influencers in Kansas City by KC Magazine, founder and CEO of Meridian Line, don’t miss his film screening on July 20th
BOUCHAINE YOUNG ARTIST SERIES
This series of concerts are free and offer performances by incredible emerging artists. Each artist also receives a scholarship. This year’s artists include the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, competition-winning Violinist Stephen Waarts, and award-winning pianist HyeJin Kim.
TASTE OF NAPA
This is the festival’s signature event with wine and food from over 80 of Napa Valley’s wineries, craft breweries, restaurants, and food purveyors! The list of participants includes Duckhorn Vineyards, Angele Restaurant & Bar, Napa Smith Brewery, Cate & Co. Bake Shop, and so many more. This year’s Taste of Napa also includes a friendly competition between two teams of three Napa and three San Francisco chefs.
FESTIVAL GALA & AUCTION
The evening begins with a cocktail reception, then dinner paired with Napa Valley wines under the stars at Meadowood Napa Valley. Guests will then be treated to a concert performed by award-winning actor, Kevin Spacey. Following the concert, the excitement of the live auction begins with exclusive lots.
