Winemaker dinners in Sonoma County and throughout Northern California Wine Country are offered in a variety of ways. One of the best experiences enjoyed by Pure Luxury was an intimate event presented by Pedroncelli Winery at Diavola Pizzeria & Salumeria.
We were greeted by our gracious hosts, Julie Pedroncelli St. John, and Ed St. John. The atmosphere inside Diavola was warm, inviting, and enhanced by the mounthwatering scents from the kitchen. A glance at our table informed us that we would be tasting a sampling of Pedroncelli Winery red and white wines.
The adventure began when our hosts happily poured Friends.White, 2012 Sonoma County White Wine Blend. This masterful blend of Gewurztraminer, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc was a crisp combination of fruit and citrus. It was delicious on its own and was incredibly adaptable. When sipped with each selection on the Salami and Cheese platter, different flavors from the Friends.White emerged. And that was just the beginning of this incredible evening.
We continued to taste Pedroncelli Chardonnay, Friends.Red, Zinfandel, and Sangiovese. All perfectly paired with the local, fresh, cuisine prepared by Diavola.
The end of the evening finished with an outstanding tiramisu and an equally outstanding Pedroncelli Dry Creek Valley Vintage Port, 2008, Four Grapes.
Pedroncelli Winery is a family owned winery that began growing and selling grapes in 1927. The family started making their own wines in 1934. Amazingly, one small block of Zinfandel originally planted in 1927 still remains in their vineyards and is rightfully named the Mother Clone.
Along with the wines Pure Luxury enjoyed, Pedroncelli Winery also makes a Dry Rose of Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petite Sirah. As part of their commitment to sustainable winegrowing, all tending and harvesting of the vines is done by hand. The masterful skills and care used to create Pedroncelli wines is beautifully and deliciously apparent.
